Did you know that the Planning Analytics Architect desktop client allows for multiple instances to run simultaneously? This feature can be used to greatly improve efficiency during development, testing, and even day to day use.

When to use multiple architect sessions?

  • Long running processes can lock an Architect or Perspectives session until the process finishes. Logging into a second Architect session allows you to continue your work while the process finishes.
  • During development testing, multiple Architect sessions can be used to simulate multiple users performing actions in the system at the same time.
  • Security testing can be speedily performed using multiple Architect sessions to log in as different users in order to test security user group access.
  • If multiple Planning Analytics instances are in use, multiple Architect sessions can be used to log into each instance in order to reduce scrolling.
  • During general development or system use, multiple Architect sessions can be open to facilitate quick access to cubes, processes, etc. to reduce scrolling.

How to launch multiple Architect sessions?

If the Architect icon is available on your desktop, you can click it to launch a second Architect window at any time. If you do not have the Architect icon on your desktop, you can search for Architect from the Windows start menu, or manually find the tm1a.exe file in the \tm1bin64 folder.

How to log in to multiple Architect sessions?

When logging into multiple Architect sessions you can use your Planning Analytics credentials to log in multiple times as yourself. If you are an administrator testing security, you can have one session logged in as yourself with admin privileges and another session logged in as a test user from a certain security group. If you are testing multiple security groups, you can manipulate the test user’s security credentials from your Admin account in order to move the user into different security groups without having to log out and log back in. Note that moving the test user into different security groups may require you to run a security refresh in order for the new security settings to be fully applied.
