Finding the correct Planning Analytics download files from IBM Fix Central can be a confusing task. This guide will walk you through the steps necessary to identify the Planning Analytics [PA], Planning Analytics for Excel [PAfE], Planning Analytics Workspace [PAW], and Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Services [PASSL] files that you need for your system.

1 – Accessing the Planning Analytics file downloads from IBM Fix Central

Log into IBM Fix Central at https://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/ using your IBM ID and search for ‘IBM Planning Analytics Local’ on the ‘Find Product’ screen. Click ‘Continue’ and then select ‘Browse for fixes’ on the subsequent screen. Selecting ‘All’ Platforms will show the 32 and 64 bit download options for both Windows and Linux.

2 – Downloading the Planning Analytics [PA] server and client [Architect] install files to be installed on the PA server

To download the PA server and client, locate the newest BA-PAL-2.*  file in the list. Click in the box to select it  and click ‘Continue’.

On the following ‘Download Options’ page, select the options to download using HTTPs and to include prerequisites, and then click ‘Continue’.

On the following screen you will see options to download the Windows or Linux PA Server and Client install files. The Architect Client is included in the PA Server download, but it is additionally available as a separate individual download for when it is being installed on end-user machines. The Windows PA Server and Client downloads include the legacy Perspectives Excel add-in. Note that these file are ~1-3GB in size and can take time to download from IBM and/or move across a network.

*Note that downloads from IBM are double-zipped as *.tar.gz files and must be double-unzipped in order to be accessed and ran. An unzip utility such as 7zip will be needed to extract the files.

3 – Downloading Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Services [TM1Web] install files to be installed on the PA server

To download the latest Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Services, locate the newest BA-PASSL-2.*  file in the list. Click in the box to select it  and click ‘Continue’.  Note that PASSL is part of the legacy TM1Web service. PASSL is used by PAW to render published Excel pages online.

On the following ‘Download Options’ page, select the options to download using HTTPs and to include prerequisites, and then click ‘Continue’.

On the following screen you will see options to download PASSL 64 bit for Windows or Linux.

4 – Downloading the Planning Analytics for Excel [PAfE] Windows install files to be installed on end-user machines

To download the latest PAfE, locate the newest BA-PAXL-2.*  file in the list. Click in the box to select it  and click ‘Continue’.  Note that PAfE is the new name for what was previously referred to as PAX and replaces the legacy Perspectives add-in. PAfE can be downloaded in 32 or 64 bit depending on which type of Microsoft Excel the end-user has.

On the following ‘Download Options’ page, select the options to download using HTTPs and to include prerequisites, and then click ‘Continue’.

On the following screen you will see options to download PAfE 32 or 64 bit. To identify the Microsoft Excel version, go to File -> Account -> About Microsoft Excel.

5 – Downloading the Planning Analytics Workspace [PAW] install files to be installed on the PAW server

To download the latest Planning Analytics Workspace, locate the newest BA-PAWL-2.*  file in the list. Click in the box to select it  and click ‘Continue’.

On the following ‘Download Options’ page, select the options to download using HTTPs and to include prerequisites, and then click ‘Continue’.

On the following screen you will see options to download PAW for Linux or Windows. PAW is optimized for Linux, therefore QueBIT strongly endorses Linux as the PAW OS of choice. Note that these file are ~2-8GB in size and can take time to download from IBM and/or move across a network.
