{"id":4523,"date":"2024-11-21T20:47:48","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T20:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/?p=4523"},"modified":"2026-01-20T15:40:50","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T15:40:50","slug":"syncing-environments-without-the-rich-tier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/syncing-environments-without-the-rich-tier\/","title":{"rendered":"How Do I Sync Planning Analytics Environments Without the Rich Tier?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Deprecation of the Rich Tier Desktop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4524\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"58\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture1.png 900w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture1-300x19.png 300w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture1-768x49.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <u>IBM\u00a0Planning Analytics on Cloud team<\/u> has announced that, the <strong>Rich Tier Desktop<\/strong> is soon to be no longer accessible for Planning Analytics on Cloud Modelers and you will now use <strong>Planning Analytics Workspace<\/strong> (or \u201cPAW\u201d)\u00a0for all of your administrative tasks, including restoring or \u201csynchronizing\u201d files or folders in one cloud environment shared folder to another cloud environment shared folder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The \u201cOld\u201d or \u201cRich Tier\u201d Days<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/pt\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=information-welcome-kit\">IBM Planning Analytics\u00a0Welcome Kit<\/a> under the section named \u201cPlanning Analytics shared folder\u201d you\u2019ll find the procedure for using <em>shared folder authentication<\/em> to access the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=overview-planning-analytics-shared-folder\">shared folder<\/a> of one cloud server from an RDP connection or <strong>\u201cdesktop session\u201d<\/strong> of another Planning Analytics environment shared folder. Basically, (if you are familiar with MS Windows), you can think of this as \u201cmapping\u201d a connection so that you can then move or copy files from one location to another (and without worries, as your content is encrypted while it is being transferred) just as you would when using Windows <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/find-and-open-file-explorer-ef370130-1cca-9dc5-e0df-2f7416fe1cb1\">File Explorer<\/a> on your personal machine\u2019s desktop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Syncing Environments without the Rich Tier<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Introducing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=wnim2-use-new-drive-explorer-access-s-drive-cloud-only\">Drive Explorer<\/a> &#8211;\u00a0a tool that gives users access to shared folders (including remote shared folders) within cloud environments. With this tool you can upload files, create folders, select files, rename files, move files to a new location, copy files, delete files, compress files and yes, even connect to a remote shared folder \u2013 all without establishing that desktop session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Obtaining Access to Drive Explorer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Only users with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/storage-insights?topic=users-roles-access-rights\">Subscription Administrator Access<\/a> or those with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=auc-manage-user-capabilities-in-planning-analytics-administration-cloud-only\">Drive Explorer Capability enabled<\/a> can access the Drive Explorer tool. To grant access to Drive Explorer, an account <em>subscription manager<\/em> must first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=auc-manage-user-capabilities-in-planning-analytics-administration-cloud-only#task_zpq_1pp_jcc\">assign an administrator the ability to manage user capabilities in a non-primary environment.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then, to enable Drive Explorer (assuming you have capabilities access), you log into planning analytics workspace and go to <strong>Administration<\/strong>, then <strong>Users and Groups<\/strong>. From there, select a user from the list and click on the <strong>Capabilities<\/strong> tab. Finally, under <strong>Modeling<\/strong>, toggle Drive explorer to green to enable it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4525\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"715\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture2.png 715w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture2-300x170.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 715px) 100vw, 715px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Connecting to the Shared Folder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you connect to a <strong>shared folder<\/strong> using IBM Planning Analytics Workspace Drive Explorer, you are essentially \u201cmapping\u201d the shared folder as a \u201cnetwork\u201d or \u201cconnected\u201d drive \u00a0allowing you to manage files directly through the Drive Explorer interface. You access the &#8220;Drive Explorer&#8221; within the Workspace (PAW) application by following these steps:<\/p>\n<p>After opening a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=2wnj12-use-modeling-workbench-create-maintain-your-model-beta\">Workbench<\/a>, locate and click on the <strong>Drive Explorer icon<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4526\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"341\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture3.png 341w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture3-300x103.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 341px) 100vw, 341px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Drive Explorer tab<\/strong> should open to the \u201cRoot\u201d of the shared folder:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4527\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture4.png 900w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture4-300x50.png 300w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture4-768x128.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Locating and Compressing Files and Folders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using the Drive Explorer <strong><em>action icons<\/em><\/strong> (shown below) you can:<\/p>\n<p>Search, Refresh, Upload, Create folders and Connect to a remote shared folder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4528\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"53\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In addition, you can use the <em>checkboxes<\/em> to the left of each file or folder (shown highlighted below) to select the file or folder that you want to download, cut, copy, compress, delete, rename, preview, or copy (its) path:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4529\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you click a checkbox (to select a file or folder), the <strong>Action Menu Bar<\/strong> appears in <strong>blue<\/strong> (you can also initiate certain actions from the ellipse icon):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4530\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture7.png 900w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture7-300x96.png 300w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture7-768x247.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Connecting to a Remote Shared Folder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To connect to a remote shared folder in IBM Workspace Drive Explorer, you need to\u00a0access the &#8220;Drive Explorer&#8221; feature within your IBM Planning Analytics Workspace, where you can then click on the \u201c<strong>Open remote server<\/strong>\u201d icon:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4531\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"365\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture8.png 365w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture8-300x96.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 365px) 100vw, 365px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, select the <strong>Remote name<\/strong> (where your shared folder exists) to connect to and enter the provided credentials (<strong>Username<\/strong> and <strong>Password<\/strong>), typically found in your &#8220;Welcome Kit,&#8221; and then navigate through the specific shared folder (on that server) to access its files:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4552\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"842\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture9.png 842w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture9-300x113.png 300w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture9-768x290.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 842px) 100vw, 842px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Copying and Pasting Files and Folders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To copy a file or folder using Drive Explorer, click the checkbox to select it and when the <strong>Action Menu Bar<\/strong> appears in <strong>blue<\/strong>, click <strong>Copy<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4532\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture10.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture10.png 900w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture10-300x59.png 300w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture10-768x150.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Action Menu Bar<\/strong> will disappear, and the copied file <u>path<\/u> will show (as seen below). <strong>Paste<\/strong> is greyed out because you cannot paste a file to itself. If you navigate to a desired location, Paste will enable and allow you to past the file (you can always click <strong>Cancel<\/strong> to start over):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4533\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture11.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"101\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture11.png 900w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture11-300x34.png 300w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Picture11-768x86.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Compressing and Uncompressing Files and Folders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Action Menu Bar<\/strong> also offers the ability to <strong><u>compress<\/u><\/strong> selected files and folders. To compress a file or folder using Drive Explorer, click the checkbox to select it and when the <strong>Action Menu Bar<\/strong> appears in <strong>blue<\/strong>, click <strong>Compress<\/strong>.
