Shared drives are\u00a0a common way to store, search and grant file access to individuals. As an alternative of an individual having \u201cownership,\u201d a <em>shared network drive<\/em> puts files in the hands of entire teams.<\/p>\n<p>Each <strong>IBM Planning Analytics cloud<\/strong> system includes\u00a0a secured <em>dedicated shared folder<\/em> (always \\\\data\\s) for storing and transferring data files.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Access to the Cloud Shared Folder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=information-welcome-kit\"><strong>IBM Planning Analytics Welcome Kit<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>that you receive when your cloud instance is provisioned contains the information needed to access the shared folder, including a username, password, and the IP address and path to the folder.<\/p>\n<p>You can use a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/FTPS\"><strong>File Transfer Protocol Secure<\/strong><\/a> or \u201cFTPS\u201d application to copy files between a <strong>local<\/strong> computer and the IBM Planning Analytics system shared folder.<\/p>\n<p>From a remote desktop (RDP) session (connected to the cloud instance desktop), you can use MS Windows file sharing to connect to the shared drive (\\\\data\\s) and from another cloud instance desktop, you can the IP address (replace the 9\u2019s in this example with the IP number from your welcome kit) of the shared folder: use: \\\\99.999.999.999\\s.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever files are moved in or out of a cloud instance, all content is automatically encrypted (while it is being transferred).<\/p>\n<p><strong>A More Convenient Option<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The IBM Planning Analytics Workspace\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.1.0?topic=model-using-file-manager\"><strong>File manager<\/strong><\/a><strong> feature<\/strong>, is a tool that the <a href=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/using-the-modeling-workbench-in-planning-analytics\/\">modeling workbench<\/a> offers which works similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File_Explorer\">MS Windows File Explorer<\/a>, showing a list of all the files and folders that have been uploaded to the\u00a0Planning Analytics\u00a0database and allows you to manage (cut, copy, paste, and even compress and expand) files and folders.<\/p>\n<p>To launch File manager for a database,\u00a0<em>right-click<\/em> the database in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=data-find-tree\"><strong>Databases tree<\/strong><\/a> on a modeling workbench, then click <strong>File manager<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4459\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Picture1-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Picture1-2.png 607w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Picture1-2-300x262.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Planning Analytics Workspace File Manager\u00a0has been enhanced in recent versions (so check your version for feature availability) and now supports the \u201ctypical\u201d MS Windows File Explorer application functionalities.
