{"id":4333,"date":"2024-03-11T14:35:58","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T14:35:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/?p=4333"},"modified":"2026-01-20T15:52:25","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T15:52:25","slug":"editing-consolidated-cells-in-ibm-planning-analytics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/editing-consolidated-cells-in-ibm-planning-analytics\/","title":{"rendered":"How Do I Edit Consolidated Cells in IBM Planning Analytics?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>IBM Planning Analytics &#8211; Editing Consolidated Cells<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>TM1\/Planning Analytics users should not be able to write to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=statement-leafconsolidatedstring-qualifier\">consolidated cells<\/a>, with two exceptions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the element in the <strong>last dimension<\/strong> is a String (that is, text) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/pt\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=cubes-types-elements\">type<\/a>; or<\/li>\n<li>If you are doing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/cognos-tm1\/10.2.2?topic=spreading-overview-data\">Data Spreading<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/cognos-tm1\/10.2.2?topic=arguments-clear\">Clear function<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you&#8217;re trying to prevent input into consolidated <em>string<\/em> elements and avoid unintentional downward spreading, then you can use <strong>element security<\/strong> to assign &#8220;READ&#8221; access to all consolidations (every element that is higher than level 0). This can be done either manually or by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/planning-analytics\/2.0.0?topic=resources-tm1-rules\">rule<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Below is an example showing a dimension named \u201cb\u201d, showing 2 elements; \u201c<em>mySimple_Element<\/em>\u201d which is a type <strong>Simple<\/strong> (numeric) and \u201c<em>myString_Element<\/em>\u201d which is type <strong>String<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4334\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"874\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Picture1.png 874w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Picture1-300x69.png 300w, https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Picture1-768x177.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 874px) 100vw, 874px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Assume that the above dimension is part of a simple two-dimensional cube named \u201ca\u201d.
