{"id":4157,"date":"2023-11-07T15:39:42","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T15:39:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/?p=4157"},"modified":"2026-01-16T15:29:22","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T15:29:22","slug":"do-i-need-an-ibm-id","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/do-i-need-an-ibm-id\/","title":{"rendered":"Do I Need an IBM ID to Access IBM-Related Software, Downloads, and Support Resources?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Do I Need an IBM ID?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are responsible for supporting IBM Planning Analytics (PA), are the \u201cnewly appointed\u201d PA or Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) administrator for your organization or simply a Planning Analytics \u201cconsumer\u201d, at some point you will want to \u201cinteract\u201d with IBM in respect to potential new offerings, version availability, downloads, decommissioned features, known defect lists or ask a specific question about the product or products you are using.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with your own IBM ID<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be able to do all of the above things (and more), you\u2019ll need to first have your own IBM Identifier, that is, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/support\/pages\/why-do-i-have-create-ibmid\">you need your own \u201cIBM ID\u201d<\/a> to log into the <strong>IBM <\/strong><strong>Support Site<\/strong> and engage IBM digitally.<\/p>\n<p>The IBM Support Site is a \u201cone-stop, self-service\u201d destination where you can get help with Planning Analytics (and other products), open a support case, and where the information relating to your interests and products that you are using is centralized so you can maintain it in a convenient and secure location.<\/p>\n<p>Within the IBM Support Site, you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Receive\u00a0<em><strong>help<\/strong><\/em>from tech experts<\/li>\n<li>Open and manage support cases for your specific hardware and software products.<\/li>\n<li>Open a Watson chat to get additional help.<\/li>\n<li>Download product information, tools, and other useful information.<\/li>\n<li>Sign up for notifications for important information about their products.<\/li>\n<li>Access support documentation, communities, and training videos.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What does an IBM ID Cost?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your IBM ID is free, and you do not have to have technical expertise to create (and use) your own IBM ID.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I Create an IBM ID?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/docs\/en\/urbancode-deploy\/6.2.2?topic=deploy-registering-support-portal\">create your own IBM ID<\/a>, you can follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Using your Web Browser, open the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/products?types%5b0%5d=software\">IBM Support Portal website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Common support links section<\/strong>, click <strong>Sign in<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Create IBM id<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the IBM id registration form (Note: The email address that you specify in the form will be your username or IBM ID).<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Continue<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the user information form.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Submit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Using your IDM ID to Download<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As mentioned above, once you have your IBM ID, you can use it to access the IBM Support website, navigate to <a href=\"https:\/\/www-945.ibm.com\/support\/fixcentral\/\">IBM Fix Central<\/a> and perform downloads. This <a href=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/planning-analytics-local-workspace-and-excel-download-guide\/\">download guide<\/a> walks you through the steps for downloading packages such as Planning Analytics Local (PAL), Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW), and Planning Analytics for Excel (PAx).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Creating a Support Case <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once you have created your IBM ID, you can use it to open and interact with <em>Support Cases<\/em>. A detailed description can help support understand your problem more accurately and thus provide solutions or answers more quickly. That\u2019s it. Typically, you receive an acknowledgment that your case has been received within a short period of time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Centralized Repository<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have already mentioned that the IBM Support Site is where your information relating to your interests and products that you are using is centralized, conveniently available and secure.
