By utilizing groups and roles, these distinct views can be managed easily.<\/p>\n<p>In the case below, we want to distinguish between four sets of users; Administrator, Finance, Marketing and Operations.\u00a0 We will need to set up the namespace folders using the structure below.\u00a0 Create the groups and roles, and then assign the users to a group, and the group to a role.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-228 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/GS1-min-e1530104627169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"339\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Understanding Security Setup:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once the install and configuration of Cognos Analytics is completed, the administrator will need to setup security. This setup includes configuring the authentication providers to take advantage of the existing security infrastructure in your organization. Each authentication provider that is configured for use with Cognos Analytics is referred to as a namespace or external namespace.<\/p>\n<p>Cognos Analytics has a built-in, internal namespace named Cognos. The Cognos namespace includes predefined objects to help you quickly set up initial security, which will simplify the process of managing access permissions and deploying content.\u00a0 For a complete list of these objects, you can reference the <em>IBM Cognos Analytics Installation and Configuration Guide<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The namespace contains users, groups and roles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A group is a collection of users. Members of groups can be users and other groups.<\/li>\n<li>A role is a collection of capabilities that identify the tasks that a user can perform. Members of roles can be users, groups, and other roles.<\/li>\n<li>A user can belong to several groups or roles. When a user is a member of more than one group, access permissions are merged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Procedure to set up the Custom Folders:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click Manage &gt; Accounts and click the Cognos namespace to open it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-229\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/GS2-min.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"259\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a \u201cCustom Groups\u201d folder to hold our custom groups and roles for easy access. Begin by clicking the new folder \u00a0\u00a0icon and name the folder \u201cCustom Groups\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-230\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/GS3-min.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"261\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Repeat the same step as #3, and create a folder within \u201cCustom Groups\u201d called \u201cSecurity Groups\u201d and \u201cUser Roles\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-231\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/GS4-min.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"172\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Procedure to create groups and roles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open the \u201cSecurity Groups\u201d folder and click the new group icon, and type the unique name for the group in the space provided, and press the enter key. Do this step four times, once for each new group.\u00a0 The groups are added to the list of entries in the Cognos namespace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-232 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/GS5-min-300x185.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"185\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Now that the groups have been created, you will want to create the corresponding roles. Open the \u201cUser Roles\u201d folder and click the new role icon, and type the unique name for the role in the space provided, and press the enter key. In this example, we will add the user AAD_05e58c9753c5 to the user group Finance.\n<ul>\n<li>Click on manage, accounts. Go to the user group \u201cFinance\u201d which was created in the steps above (Custom Groups, Security Groups, Finance) and click on the members tab.\u00a0 Click on the \u00a0icon to add a new member.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-222\" src=\"https:\/\/quebit.com\/askquebit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/GS7-min.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"457\" height=\"251\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the Cognos namespace to open it and find the member name you want to add.
